Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups chocolate chips (semisweet, milk, dark, or a mix)

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Cookie sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Cooling rack

Method

  1. Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that your cookies bake evenly.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract until combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  6. Gently fold in the chocolate chips, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  7. Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded balls of dough onto a lined cookie sheet, leaving space between each cookie to allow for spreading.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers may look slightly underbaked; this is perfect for a chewy cookie.
  9. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For softer cookies, substitute half the butter with vegetable oil.
  • Freeze cookie dough balls for up to 3 months for quick baking.
  • Add nuts for extra crunch or use different chocolate types for variety.
