Ingredients

For the Donuts:
  • 15.25 oz boxed cake mix (chocolate, strawberry, or vanilla – your choice!)
  • 1 large egg (room temperature for best results)
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil or applesauce (for a healthier twist)
  • 1 cup Chocolate Almond Breeze almondmilk (adds creaminess and flavor)
For the Chocolate Glaze:
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar (to create that sweet glaze)
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for a rich chocolate flavor)
  • 2 tbsp Chocolate Almond Breeze almondmilk (to thin out the glaze)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract (for added depth of flavor)
  • various sprinkles and toppings (to make your donuts pop!)

Equipment

  • Donut Pan
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Cooling rack
  • Piping bag or zip-top bag

Method

Instructions:
  1. Step 1: Preheat Your Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that your donuts will bake evenly and rise beautifully.
  2. Step 2: Prepare the Donut Batter
In a mixing bowl, combine the boxed cake mix, egg, vegetable oil (or applesauce), and Chocolate Almond Breeze almondmilk. Use a whisk to mix until everything is well combined and smooth.
  3. Step 3: Fill the Donut Pan
Spray your donut pan with non-stick cooking spray. Using a piping bag or a zip-top bag with the corner snipped off, fill each donut cavity about halfway with the batter.
  4. Step 4: Bake the Donuts
Place the donut pan in the preheated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  5. Step 5: Cool the Donuts
Once baked, remove the donut pan from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Then, carefully transfer the donuts to a cooling rack to cool completely.
  6. Step 6: Make the Chocolate Glaze
In a medium bowl, combine the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, 2 tablespoons of Chocolate Almond Breeze almondmilk, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth and glossy.
  7. Step 7: Glaze the Donuts
Once the donuts are completely cool, dip the top of each donut into the chocolate glaze. Allow any excess to drip off before placing them back on the cooling rack.
  8. Step 8: Add Toppings
While the glaze is still wet, sprinkle your favorite toppings or sprinkles on top.
  9. Step 9: Serve and Enjoy
Let the glaze set for a few minutes before serving. These donuts are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored for later.

Notes

  • Ensure your almondmilk is at room temperature before adding it to the batter for better incorporation.
  • For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of salt to the glaze to balance the sweetness.
  • If you use applesauce instead of oil, the donuts will be slightly denser, but still delicious.
