Step-by-Step Instructions
- Start by rinsing the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This step is crucial as it removes excess starch, resulting in fluffy rice. Drain the rice well.
- In a medium saucepan, heat the coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, just until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
- Add the drained rice to the saucepan, stirring to coat it with the oil and garlic. Toast the rice for about 2-3 minutes, allowing it to absorb the flavors. Then, pour in the filtered water and add the fine sea salt.
- Increase the heat to high and bring the water to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and all the liquid has been absorbed.
- Once the rice is cooked, remove it from heat and let it sit covered for an additional 5 minutes. Then, uncover and fluff the rice with a fork. Stir in the lime zest, lime juice, and chopped cilantro. Taste and adjust with additional lime juice if desired.
Notes
- Store leftover rice in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- For longer storage, freeze the rice in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months.
- Reheat rice in the microwave with a splash of water to prevent it from drying out.
