Ingredients
  • 1 head cauliflower cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce such as Frank's

  • Oil for frying

Equipment

  • Large Pot or Deep Fryer
  • Slotted spoon
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Paper towels

Method

Instructions
  1. Step 1: Prepare the Cauliflower - Begin by washing the cauliflower head thoroughly. Cut it into bite-sized florets and set aside.
  2. Step 2: Make the Batter - In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together until well blended. Gradually add water and hot sauce, stirring until you have a smooth batter. It should be thick enough to coat the cauliflower but not too heavy.
  3. Step 3: Coat the Cauliflower - Dip each cauliflower floret into the batter, ensuring it is evenly coated. Allow any excess batter to drip off before moving to the next step.
  4. Step 4: Bread the Cauliflower - In a separate dish, place the seasoned breadcrumbs. Roll each battered cauliflower piece in the breadcrumbs until fully coated. This will give your Deep Fried Cauliflower that delightful crispy texture.
  5. Step 5: Heat the Oil - In a large pot or deep fryer, heat oil over medium-high heat. To test if the oil is ready, drop a small piece of batter into the oil; if it bubbles and rises to the surface, you’re good to go!
  6. Step 6: Fry the Cauliflower - Carefully add the coated cauliflower florets into the hot oil in batches, avoiding overcrowding. Fry for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the cauliflower and place it on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  7. Step 7: Serve and Enjoy - Once all the cauliflower is fried, serve it warm with your favorite dipping sauce, or sprinkle with additional seasoning for extra flavor. Enjoy your homemade Deep Fried Cauliflower!

Notes

  • For extra flavor, try adding spices such as garlic powder, paprika, or cayenne pepper to the breadcrumb mixture.
  • If you prefer a milder flavor, reduce or omit the hot sauce in the batter.
  • Make sure your oil is at the right temperature to ensure crispy results. Too low and the cauliflower will absorb too much oil; too high and it may burn.
