  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup cold butter cut into small cubes
  • 1 large egg
  • 2/3 cup buttermilk (low-fat or whole milk)

Method
 

Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar (if using), salt, and baking powder.
  3. Add the cold butter and cut into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg and buttermilk.
  5. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined.
  6. Drop heaping tablespoons of dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the tops are lightly golden brown.
  8. Let cool for a few minutes before serving warm.

Notes

  • Add herbs like rosemary or thyme for extra flavor.
  • Best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated.
