Ingredients

  • 1 pound Horizon Organic Unsalted Butter softened
  • 3 cups organic granulated sugar
  • 6 large Horizon Organic Eggs at room temperature
  • 3 cups organic all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Horizon Organic Whole Milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract (may be omitted; use 3 teaspoons of vanilla extract instead)
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Horizon Organic Whole Milk or as needed for consistency

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Electric mixer
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Pound cake pan
  • Wire Rack

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that your cake bakes evenly.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened Horizon Organic Unsalted Butter and organic granulated sugar. Use an electric mixer to cream them together until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Add the Horizon Organic Large Eggs to the butter and sugar mixture, one at a time, ensuring each egg is well incorporated before adding the next.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the organic all-purpose flour and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with the Horizon Organic Whole Milk. Start and end with the flour mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract and almond extract (if using). Mix until everything is well blended and the batter is smooth.
  6. Grease your pound cake pan with butter and lightly dust it with flour to prevent sticking. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  7. Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 60-70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, turn it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. In a small bowl, whisk together the confectioners' sugar and Horizon Organic Whole Milk until smooth. If the glaze is too thick, add more milk, one teaspoon at a time, until you reach your desired consistency.
  10. Once the pound cake is completely cool, drizzle the glaze over the top, allowing it to drip down the sides.

Notes

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
  • Wrap cooled cake tightly in plastic wrap and foil to freeze for up to three months.
  • Reheat by thawing in the fridge overnight and warming in a preheated oven at 300°F (150°C) for about 10-15 minutes.
