Ingredients

For the Donuts:
  • 3 cups Krusteaz Buttermilk Pancake Mix
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 cups neutral oil (peanut or safflower are good options)
  • pinch salt
For the Glaze:
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar (sifted)
  • 4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 4-5 tablespoons milk (for the glaze)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Donut cutter
  • Deep fryer or large pot
  • Whisk
  • Cooling rack

Method

Making the Donuts:
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of Krusteaz Buttermilk Pancake Mix and a pinch of salt. Gradually add in 1 cup of milk, mixing until you have a smooth batter.
  2. In a deep fryer or large pot, heat 3 cups of neutral oil over medium heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C).
  3. Using a donut cutter, cut out shapes from the batter. Carefully drop each donut into the hot oil, frying in batches.
  4. Fry the donuts for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil.
  5. Prepare the glaze by whisking together 1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar, 4 tablespoons of cocoa powder, 4-5 tablespoons of milk, and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract in a mixing bowl until smooth.
  6. Once the donuts are cooled, dip the tops into the glaze and allow any excess to drip off before placing them back on the cooling rack.

Notes

  • Ensure oil is at the right temperature; too hot will burn them.
  • Experiment with flavors by adding spices like cinnamon.
  • Store unglazed donuts in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
