Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 2 bags plain microwave popcorn (3.2-ounce each)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup mini marshmallows
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 4 tablespoons margarine or unsalted butter plus more for hands
  • 2 teaspoons cold water
  • A few drops food coloring of choice optional

Equipment

  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Microwave-safe bowl
  • Rubber spatula
  • Baking sheet
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

Instructions
  1. Step 1: Prepare the Popcorn - Begin by popping the popcorn according to the package instructions. Once popped, carefully remove any unpopped kernels and place the popcorn into a large mixing bowl.
  2. Step 2: Melt the Marshmallows - In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the mini marshmallows, butter (or margarine), corn syrup, and cold water. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until the mixture is smooth and melted.
  3. Step 3: Mix in the Sugar - Once melted, stir in the powdered sugar until fully incorporated. The mixture will be thick and sticky, which is exactly what you want for your Easy Popcorn Balls.
  4. Step 4: Combine Everything - Pour the melted marshmallow mixture over the popcorn in the large bowl. Use a rubber spatula to gently fold the popcorn into the marshmallow mixture until every kernel is coated. If you’re using food coloring, add a few drops now and mix until the color is evenly distributed.
  5. Step 5: Form the Balls - To prevent sticking, lightly butter your hands. Take a handful of the popcorn mixture and shape it into a ball, about the size of a tennis ball. Repeat this process until all the mixture has been shaped into balls.
  6. Step 6: Cool and Enjoy - Place the formed popcorn balls onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Allow them to cool completely before serving. This will help them set and hold their shape.

Notes

  • For a festive touch, customize with food coloring and themed candies.
  • Store popcorn balls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
  • Use butter on your hands to prevent the mixture from sticking.
