Ingredients

For the Custard:
  • 3 cups milk whole or almond milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla pure extract
  • 1 dash nutmeg for spice
  • 1 pie crust frozen, unbaked

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Pie Dish
  • Oven Thermometer

Method

Instructions
  1. Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). This temperature allows the custard to set perfectly without overcooking.
  2. Step 2: Prepare the Pie Crust
Place your frozen, unbaked pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish. If using a homemade crust, roll it out to fit the dish and crimp the edges.
  3. Step 3: Mix the Custard Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of milk, 1 cup of sugar, 6 large eggs, 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract, and a dash of nutmeg. Whisk together until the mixture is smooth and well-blended.
  4. Step 4: Pour the Custard into the Crust
Carefully pour the custard mixture into the prepared pie crust, filling it to about ¾ full to allow for expansion during baking.
  5. Step 5: Bake the Pie
Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the custard is set around the edges but slightly wobbly in the center.
  6. Step 6: Cool and Serve
Once baked, remove the pie from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack. After it has cooled, you can refrigerate it for a few hours or serve it warm. Dust with more nutmeg or cinnamon before serving if desired.

Notes

  • Use fresh ingredients for the best flavor.
  • Consider using almond milk for a lighter version.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
