Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound gnocchi soft potato gnocchi, fresh or store-bought
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil divided, for searing
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese grated
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • fresh parsley chopped, for garnish
  • turkey bacon chopped

Method
 

  1. Start by mincing the garlic cloves finely and chopping the turkey bacon into bite-sized pieces. Grate the Parmesan cheese and chop the fresh parsley. Having everything ready before you begin cooking ensures a smooth process.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in your skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped turkey bacon and cook until crispy and browned, about 4-5 minutes. Remove the bacon from the skillet and set aside on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  3. In the same skillet, add the remaining 3 tablespoons of olive oil and heat over medium-high heat. Add the gnocchi in a single layer without overcrowding. Cook undisturbed for 3-4 minutes until the bottoms are golden and crispy. Flip the gnocchi and cook another 3-4 minutes until all sides are crispy like a pancake.
  4. Reduce heat to medium and add the minced garlic. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn it. Sprinkle in the red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper, stirring gently to combine.
  5. Remove the skillet from heat and immediately sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the gnocchi so it melts slightly from the residual heat. Add the crispy turkey bacon pieces and toss gently to distribute the flavors evenly.
  6. Transfer the gnocchi to a serving dish and garnish with freshly chopped parsley. Serve immediately to enjoy the crispy edges and tender centers.

Notes

  • Do not overcrowd the pan when searing gnocchi to ensure they crisp properly.
  • Let the gnocchi develop a golden crust before flipping to avoid breaking them.
  • Use enough oil to cover the pan’s bottom well for even searing.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in a pan to restore crispiness.
  • To veganize, use plant-based Parmesan and substitute turkey bacon with smoked tempeh or mushrooms.
