Ingredients

For the Filling:
  • 1 unit onion diced
  • 1 unit yellow pepper diced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • ½ teaspoon fresh ground pepper
  • 1 tablespoon oil for sautéing
  • 1 tablespoon butter for sautéing
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 4 large burrito-sized tortillas
  • 1 cup iceberg lettuce chopped
  • ½ cup ketchup or barbecue sauce
  • 1 cup Gruyere cheese shredded (or cheddar, or a mixture)

Equipment

  • Skillet or griddle
  • Spatula
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Mixing bowl

Method

Cooking Instructions:
  1. In a skillet, heat the oil and butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion and yellow pepper, and sauté until they are soft and translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Sprinkle in the garlic salt and fresh ground pepper for added flavor, then remove from heat.
  2. In the same skillet, add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned and fully cooked through, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary, then mix in the sautéed onion and pepper.
  3. Lay out the large tortillas on a clean surface. In the center of each tortilla, place a generous scoop of the beef mixture, followed by a handful of chopped iceberg lettuce, a drizzle of ketchup or barbecue sauce, and a sprinkle of shredded cheese.
  4. Fold in the sides of the tortilla and roll it up tightly from the bottom to the top. Heat your skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Place the wraps seam-side down on the skillet and grill for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  5. Remove the wraps from the skillet and let them cool for a minute before slicing them in half. Serve warm with extra ketchup or barbecue sauce on the side for dipping.
