Ingredients

Ingredients
  • 2 cups frozen blueberries or fresh blueberries both work well
  • 1/3 cup water to create the sauce's consistency
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar or coconut sugar, or a natural sweetener that measures 1:1 with sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice or orange juice to add acidity
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons of water to create a slurry

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Whisk
  • Jar or container

Method

Instructions
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the blueberries with the water. If using frozen blueberries, no need to thaw them first.
  2. Add the granulated sugar and lemon or orange juice to the saucepan. Stir to combine.
  3. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally.
  4. While the blueberries are cooking, mix the cornstarch with water in a small bowl. Whisk until smooth.
  5. Once the mixture reaches a boil, slowly add the cornstarch slurry while stirring continuously. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until thickened.
  6. Remove from heat and let cool slightly before transferring to a jar or container.

Notes

  • Adjust sweetness to your liking; taste as you go.
  • For a smoother texture, blend after cooking.
