Course: Dressing
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup diced onion adds a mild sweetness and crunch
  • 3 tablespoons honey provides the perfect amount of sweetness
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce offers depth and umami flavor
  • 1 tablespoon sugar enhances sweetness; feel free to adjust
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic adds a robust flavor
  • Dash crushed red pepper (optional) for a hint of heat
  • 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar the star of the show with its tangy richness
  • 2/3 cup olive oil acts as the base, bringing everything together

Equipment

  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk or fork
  • Jar with a lid (optional)

Method

  1. Start by measuring out all your ingredients. Having everything ready to go will make the process smoother.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the diced onion, honey, soy sauce, sugar, minced garlic, and crushed red pepper if you’re using it. Stir well to combine.
  3. Pour in the balsamic vinegar and mix until the ingredients are fully incorporated.
  4. Slowly drizzle in the olive oil while whisking continuously. This will help emulsify the dressing, giving it a creamy texture.
  5. Taste your dressing and adjust the flavors as needed. You can add more honey for sweetness or a splash more vinegar for tang.
  6. If you’re not using it immediately, pour the vinaigrette into a jar with a lid and store it in the refrigerator. Give it a good shake before serving.

Notes

  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • Shake well before using, as separation is natural.
  • Avoid freezing to prevent texture changes.
