Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked chicken shredded
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 2 cups biscuit mix
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup turkey bacon cooked and crumbled
  • 1/4 cup green onions chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • salt and pepper to taste

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Baking dish (9x13 inch recommended)
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Skillet
  • Oven mitts

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the shredded cooked chicken, cooked and crumbled turkey bacon, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped green onions, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir everything together gently to distribute the flavors evenly.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the biscuit mix with the milk until a soft dough forms. The dough should be slightly sticky but manageable. If it feels too dry, add a splash more milk, one tablespoon at a time.
  3. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease your baking dish lightly with butter or cooking spray. Spread the chicken mixture evenly across the bottom of the dish, pressing it down slightly.
  4. Drop spoonfuls of the biscuit dough evenly over the chicken mixture. It’s okay if there are small gaps—this will allow the biscuits to spread and bake into a golden topping.
  5. In a small bowl, mix the melted unsalted butter with the honey until combined. Drizzle this luscious honey butter glaze over the biscuit dough, ensuring it covers as much as possible for that sweet, buttery finish.
  6. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through. The honey butter will bubble up around the edges, creating a beautiful glaze.
  7. Once out of the oven, let the bake cool for a few minutes. This dish is perfect served warm, either straight from the pan or plated with a fresh green salad or steamed veggies on the side.

Notes

  • Adjust milk slowly when mixing biscuit dough to avoid a crumbly or overly sticky topping.
  • Ensure your oven is fully preheated and bake until biscuits turn golden brown on top for perfect doneness.
  • Taste and season chicken mixture carefully, especially if using pre-seasoned cooked chicken, to prevent it from being too salty.
  • Drizzle honey butter glaze evenly and avoid overbaking to prevent burning the sugars in honey.
  • Leftovers keep well refrigerated up to 3 days or frozen up to 2 months; reheat covered for best texture.
