Ingredients

For the Chicken:
  • 2 medium boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1 to 1.5 pounds)
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour (40g)
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter (14g)
  • 3 cloves garlic (crushed or minced)
  • pinch red pepper flakes (optional)
  • ½ cup honey
  • ½ cup water
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch whisked with 1 tablespoon of water

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Whisk
  • Meat thermometer
  • Cutting board

Method

Instructions:
  1. Step 1: Prepare the Chicken - Start by slicing the chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces. In a bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt, then coat the chicken pieces thoroughly.
  2. Step 2: Heat the Pan - In a large skillet, heat the extra virgin olive oil and butter over medium-high heat. Once the butter has melted and is bubbling, add the chicken.
  3. Step 3: Cook the Chicken - Add the flour-coated chicken pieces to the skillet in a single layer. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally until golden brown and cooked through.
  4. Step 4: Add Garlic and Spices - Reduce the heat to medium. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using) to the skillet. Stir for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. Step 5: Make the Sauce - Pour in the honey, water, soy sauce, and white vinegar. Stir to combine and allow to simmer for about 5 minutes.
  6. Step 6: Thicken the Sauce - Whisk the cornstarch with water until smooth and add to the skillet. Stir until the sauce thickens, about 2 minutes.
  7. Step 7: Serve - Remove from heat and serve warm, drizzled with extra sauce. Pair with rice or steamed vegetables.

Notes

  • For more flavor, marinate the chicken in a mixture of honey, soy sauce, and garlic for 30 minutes before cooking.
  • Consider garnishing with chopped green onions or sesame seeds for added color and texture.
  • This dish tastes even better the next day as the flavors continue to develop.
