Ingredients

For the Salmon:
  • 4 fillets salmon (about 6 ounces each)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon ginger (grated)
  • 1 tablespoon gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • 2 green onions green onions (chopped, for garnish)

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Oven or Grill
  • Measuring spoons
  • Spatula
  • Serving Platter

Method

Instructions
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, gochujang, and rice vinegar. Whisk until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is well combined.
  2. Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them. Make sure each fillet is well coated. Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat your grill or oven to 400°F (200°C). If using a grill, oil the grates to prevent sticking. If using an oven, line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  4. Remove the salmon from the marinade and place the fillets on the grill or the prepared baking sheet. Cook for about 12-15 minutes, or until the salmon flakes easily with a fork.
  5. While the salmon is cooking, heat the remaining marinade in a small saucepan over medium heat until it thickens slightly. Allow it to cool before serving.
  6. Transfer the cooked salmon to a serving platter and garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions. Serve with the prepared dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Feel free to adjust the level of gochujang based on your spice preference.
  • For a smoky flavor, add smoked paprika to the marinade.
  • Pair with steamed rice and sautéed vegetables for a complete meal.
