Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter cut into chunks
  • 2/3 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1 large egg at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda generous
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups semisweet or bittersweet chocolate chips

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • Baking sheet
  • Oven

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure even baking.
  2. In your mixing bowl, add the chunks of unsalted butter. Whisk in the light brown sugar and granulated white sugar until smooth and creamy.
  3. Crack in the large egg and pour in the vanilla extract. Whisk until well combined and fluffy.
  4. Sprinkle in the salt, baking soda, and all-purpose flour. Gently fold until just combined. Do not overmix!
  5. Add the chocolate chips and fold them in evenly with a spatula.
  6. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto a prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each cookie. Bake for about 10-12 minutes until edges are golden.
  7. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Enjoy warm or store for later!

Notes

  • Use softened butter for a creamy texture.
  • Chill dough for up to 3 days before baking.
  • Try adding nuts for extra crunch!
