Ingredients

For the Salmon:
  • 1 lemon sliced
  • 1.5 pounds salmon fillet skin left on
  • 0.5 cup ghee or melted butter if not on a Paleo diet
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives optional

Equipment

  • Sheet pan or baking dish
  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Sharp knife
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

Cooking Instructions:
  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). This ensures that your salmon cooks evenly and develops a lovely roasted flavor.
  2. Step 2: In a mixing bowl, combine the ghee (or melted butter), freshly squeezed lemon juice, maple syrup, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Whisk until all ingredients are well combined.
  3. Step 3: Place the salmon fillet skin-side down on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper. This not only makes for a cleaner presentation but also prevents sticking.
  4. Step 4: Lay the lemon slices over the salmon fillet. Drizzle the marinade generously over the top, making sure it seeps into the fish for maximum flavor.
  5. Step 5: Place the sheet pan in the preheated oven and roast for 12-15 minutes, or until the salmon flakes easily with a fork. The salmon should be opaque and slightly pink in the center.
  6. Step 6: Once cooked, remove the salmon from the oven and sprinkle with chopped fresh chives if desired. Serve immediately, perhaps alongside a fresh salad or your favorite roasted vegetables.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the marinade.
  • Swap out the maple syrup for honey if you prefer a different sweetener.
  • Let the salmon marinate for at least 30 minutes to enhance the flavor.
