Ingredients

For the Biscuits:
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons Old Bay seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper optional
  • 1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter melted, for brushing
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder for finishing touch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt to season the butter
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Pastry brush

Method

Instructions:
  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). This ensures your biscuits will rise beautifully and develop a golden color.
  2. Step 2: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
  3. Step 3: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, granulated sugar, salt, Old Bay seasoning, garlic powder, dried parsley, and cayenne pepper (if using).
  4. Step 4: In another bowl, mix the buttermilk and 6 tablespoons of melted butter. Stir until well combined.
  5. Step 5: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Gently fold the mixture until just combined.
  6. Step 6: Fold in the shredded sharp Cheddar cheese until evenly distributed.
  7. Step 7: Using a spoon or cookie scoop, drop generous portions of the biscuit dough onto the prepared baking sheet. Bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  8. Step 8: While the biscuits are baking, melt the remaining 3 tablespoons of butter and mix in the additional garlic powder and salt. Brush the biscuits with the garlic butter mixture once done.

Notes

  • For the best texture, avoid overmixing the dough.
  • Experiment with different cheeses for unique flavors.
  • Let biscuits cool slightly before serving.
  • Serve warm for the best experience; reheat if needed.
