Ingredients

  • 1 pound turkey sausage lean variety
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour for thickening the gravy
  • 2 1/2 cups milk whole milk preferred
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 homemade biscuits or store-bought

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Wooden spoon
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Whisk
  • Oven mitts

Method

  1. In your large skillet over medium heat, add the turkey sausage. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon (about 5-7 minutes).
  2. Once your sausage is cooked, sprinkle the flour over the sausage. Stir well to combine and cook for about 1-2 minutes to create a roux.
  3. Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Stir until the mixture thickens and becomes creamy (about 3-5 minutes).
  4. Add salt and pepper to taste. Taste as you go to achieve the desired flavor.
  5. While the gravy thickens, bake your biscuits according to your recipe's instructions or package directions for store-bought.
  6. Once the biscuits are baked and the gravy is thickened, cut the biscuits in half and place them in the skillet. Ladle the warm sausage gravy over the biscuits.
  7. Serve immediately, garnishing with additional black pepper or fresh herbs if desired.
