Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar for topping
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon for topping

Method
 

  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and shortening until light and fluffy.
  3. Step 3: Gradually add the granulated sugar, then add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, and stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Step 4: In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Step 5: Slowly add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  6. Step 6: In a small bowl, mix the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon for the topping.
  7. Step 7: Grease or line a 9x13 inch baking pan, then spread the batter evenly in the pan.
  8. Step 8: Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the top of the batter.
  9. Step 9: Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the edges are golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
  10. Step 10: Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • For a fun twist, add chocolate chips or nuts to the batter.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to a week.
