Taco Sauce Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • to taste salt

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk or spoon
  • Storage jar

Method
 

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of tomato sauce, 1/2 cup of water, and 2 tablespoons of white vinegar. This forms the base of your taco sauce.
  2. Add 1 teaspoon each of ground cumin, onion powder, and garlic powder to the bowl. Then, sprinkle in 1/2 teaspoon of chili powder and paprika.
  3. Add 1/2 teaspoon of granulated sugar to the mix. If you like a bit of heat, include 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper.
  4. Add salt to taste. Start with a little, and adjust as needed.
  5. Using a whisk or spoon, mix all the ingredients together until they are well combined and smooth.
  6. Give your sauce a taste and adjust any seasonings if necessary.
  7. Transfer your taco sauce to a storage jar and seal it tightly. It can be refrigerated for up to two weeks.

Notes

  • For a sweeter sauce, increase the granulated sugar.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for freshness.
  • Freeze in ice cube trays for longer storage.
