Ingredients

For the Turkey:
  • 1 Turkey about 12-18 lbs. (thawed according to package instructions)
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 4 tablespoons butter (softened)
  • 1 tablespoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon cracked black pepper

Equipment

  • Roasting pan
  • Oven
  • Cooking bag
  • Cooking twine
  • Meat thermometer

Method

Cooking Instructions:
  1. Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Step 2: Remove the turkey from its packaging and take out any giblets or neck from the cavity. Rinse the turkey under cold water and pat it dry with paper towels.
  3. Step 3: In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, dried Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, Kosher salt, and cracked black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  4. Step 4: Gently lift the skin of the turkey and spread some of the butter mixture underneath it. Rub the remaining mixture all over the outside of the turkey.
  5. Step 5: Sprinkle flour inside the cooking bag to prevent bursting.
  6. Step 6: Carefully place the seasoned turkey inside the cooking bag and seal it. Make slits in the top of the bag to allow steam to escape.
  7. Step 7: Place the bagged turkey in a roasting pan and roast for about 13-15 minutes per pound.
  8. Step 8: Check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer; it should reach 165°F (75°C).
  9. Step 9: Let the turkey rest in the bag for about 20-30 minutes before carving.
  10. Step 10: Slice the turkey and serve with your favorite sides.

Notes

  • Ensure the turkey is completely thawed for even cooking.
  • Use a high-quality cooking bag to prevent bursting.
